The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has recently announced the appointment of former New Zealand international and respected coach Mr. Mike Hesson as the new Head Coach for the White ball Pakistan national team. Hesson will commence his role on May 26th, 2025 after an illustrious international career and track record of success in international cricket. It is PCB’s strategic move to improve the standard of national team performance in the limited-overs format.

Mike Hesson: A veteran of the coaching circuit, including several high-profile positions alongside us at ECS. Mike led the New Zealand national cricket team from 2012 to 2018 and took them to their first-ever Cricket World Cup Final in 2015.
He shaped New Zealand to be a dominant international side both at the wicket and in the field, so much so that the country is undoubtedly a team that has done much of their cricket better than it was played.
This manager left New Zealand after this phase and worked with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) from 2019 to 2023 as Director of Cricket.
At the time, his time in charge of RCB was defined by a player A/Z approach to strategies and more data-driven decisions in player development.
Currently, the International Head Coach of Islamabad United in the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2023.
Hesson was appointed the head coach of Islamabad United in November 2023. Together with his partnership with Islamabad United, he gained some insights into the Pakistani cricketers and upcoming talents.
Vision of PCB for the future
In the big scheme of things, PCB name Buddhu Hesson is a bit of an appointment inasmuch as it fits neatly into the PCB’s larger vision of raising Pakistan in white-ball cricket. Mohsin Naqvi, Chairman stresses the need for experienced leadership to take the team to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy soon to come.
Naqvi said,
“We are confident that Mike Hesson’s expertise and strategic acumen will be instrumental in shaping the future of Pakistani cricket. “His appointment reflects our commitment to excellence and our belief in the potential of our players.”
Looking Ahead
Hesson will now get the team ready for the next white-ball series and major tournaments. His method is believed to be analytic, player-centric, and to develop a cohesive team ethos.
There is optimistic sentiment circling the impact Hesson is going to have on the team among cricket analysts and fans. His past successes seem to bode very well for a productive period in the strategy of white-ball cricket, which will help bring both consistency & innovation to Pakistan.
